Job Details:

This position is responsible for the daily operations of the Patient Care Services department, working collaboratively with the Admitting Office and overall hospital functions on off-shifts, weekends, and holidays. Interacts with nursing/patient Care Services staff and staff of other departments to facilitate patient care. Provides administrative and clinical support to the nursing staff primarily on off-shifts, weekends, and holidays and/or in the absence of the Clinical Nursing Director.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interfaces with physicians, nursing staff, and admitting staff to secure appropriate Intensive Care Unit Beds (ICU) for patients.
  • Assists CPP teamwith general floor bed identification and allocation.
  • Provides clinical and administrative support and supervision to nursing units.
  • Responds to/participates in code Blueand stat pages.
  • Functions as on-site administrator for nursing and the hospital on off-shifts, weekends and holidays. Communicates with Executive Director and Administrator on-call as needed.
  • Manages family and patient complaints as requested. Notifies appropriate manager of issues and plan.
  • Participates in hospital and nursing committees and meetings.
  • Coordinates/assists with central nursing office operations.

Supervisory Duties

  • Supervises nurses, clinical Care Technicians, and Patient Care Safety Aides on all inpatient units including: the Emergency Department, PACU and OR when the clinical Nursing Director is not on duty.
  • Makes decisions for resource allocation based on unit based budget plans in combination with clinical need and census ensuring efficient safe patient care.
  • Role models professional nursing practice and direct or redirect focus on the patient as the center of care and decisions.
  • Supervises the clinical resource nurses, CSO staff, float pool staff, and Nursing Service Assistants in the absence of the staffing coordinator. (Note: duties may vary depending on shift)
  • Coordinates and prioritizes assignment of patient observers.
  • Provides assistance to in-patient units with CRNs as needs arise.
  • Provides feedback to appropriate manager(s) re: performance information.
  • Initiates disciplinary measures as indicated.
  • Collaborates with all departments providing patient related services: security, maintenance, housekeeping, pharmacy, and risk management
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
Job Qualifications:

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
  • Level of knowledge of professional nursing care generally acquired through completion of an accredited program in Nursing.
  • Management and interpersonal skills necessary to provide leadership to a variety of employees; to maintain a variety of internal and external contacts; and to interact effectively with patients, families; physicians and other departments.
  • Analytical abilities/critical thinking skills to identify and resolve operational problems.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelors degree in Nursing required
  • Master's degree is preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Three years adult professional nursing experience and managerial experience.
  • Level of knowledge of nursing process and knowledge of nursing management generally acquired through 3 years of professional clinical experience and concurrent managerial experience.

LICENSES, ETC.

  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Massachusetts
  • ACLS Certification
