How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

The successful candidate will work in the ALAM Process Engineering team. We are primarily responsible for the process design and execution of scopes of varying magnitude across ALAM's global asset base including grass roots plants and new technology implementation to support growing needs of our customers. You will assume Process Engineering Manager role providing guidance to team members, check/approve calculations/deliverables as well as performing tasks listed below. While experience in the semiconductor electronic specialty materials related technologies is a definite advantage, the core qualification is a demonstrated ability to lead a team of Process engineers (from 5 to 10) in carrying out projects.

Reporting to the Sr. Director Process Engineering, the Process Engineering Manager is responsible for providing technical leadership to ensure the control, optimization and development of existing or new processes. In addition, your role as a working team lead role is to help mentor Process Engineers by providing technical direction and guidance.

  • Work with Process Engineering Director to help develop direct reports by actively managing development plans and by providing clear and constructive feedback

  • Manage the process scope development of Pre-FEED and FEED package development in synthesis, purification and packaging of ALAM's ALOHA/VOLTAIX/ENSCRIBE product lines for optimum plant OPEX and CAPEX.

  • Lead, manage, develop, and mentor Lead Process Engineers who are responsible for individual product/project

  • Plan/forecast/track Process Engineering activity to ensure accurate completion of engineering work by you or your team.

  • Ensure that each Process Engineer is clear with respect to their own areas of responsibilities and associated accountabilities.

  • Effectively collaborate with Project/Product Managers/Directors and other Engineering Managers concerning the status of the Process Engineering work on the project.

  • Provide technical leadership for projects designed by you or your team. Identify and resolve technical issues in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Provide technical assistance and expertise for application for and compliance with environmental permits for the project.

  • Generate/refine Heat & Material Balances (HMBs) using ASPEN+ process simulator if applicable or by other means developed by you and your team.

  • Develop/refine plant Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) or review and approve those created by your teams.

  • Develop or approve detailed equipment design calculations and specifications for process equipment.

  • Perform and/or refine calculations and write duty specifications for machinery, vessels, control valves, relief devices, and other instruments

  • Lead P&ID development and support model reviews, operability reviews, risk assessments and hazard reviews

  • Interface with third parties and EPCs including supervision of Process Engineers as needed.

  • Lead or manage process engineering portions of project commissioning and start up.

  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance to install equipment that meets reliability targets.

  • Support plant start-up and commissioning activities

  • Foster a strong safety culture amongst the team

  • Define and establish clear objectives and expectations

  • Domestic and international travel to operating and new grass roots plant locations is expected about 10-20 percent of the time with rare short periods of several weeks of >50% travel for key activities.

  • Help with new process development to modify existing products or produce new products.

  • Process troubleshooting and improvement as needed to help resolve quality and safety issues.

  • Prepare for and support plant turnarounds, including project execution.

  • Ensure that each Process Engineer has an awareness of the relevant process operations. Support the ongoing program of product knowledge management and ensure that each process engineer understands general operating principles and critical operational parameters

  • Maintain and develop process documentation and procedures.

Qualifications:

To be successful as part of the Process Engineering team, candidates must:

  • Be self-motivated and have excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills

  • Prior management of small teams is a plus.

  • Have a strong focus on key drivers such as safety, schedule, budget, and technical performance.

  • Have a strong understanding of thermodynamics and be able to adapt knowledge to new applications

  • Develop a working relationship within the matrix organization.

  • Have good commercial and fiscal awareness and actively seek lowest cost alternatives

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (preferred). Other engineering backgrounds will be considered based on the experience.

  • 15+ years prior experience in Process, Operations, Process Systems, or Controls is preferred

  • Willingness to empower, teach, and supervise less-experienced engineers.

  • Ability to communicate effectively to a broad audience of varying levels of technical understanding

  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment and diverse team setting.

  • Self-motivated and well organized with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

  • Able to work within a matrix engineering team environment and communicate effectively with team members, project managers and customers

  • Professional experience with manufacturing processes, as well as knowledge of materials of construction for Electronics Materials production is a plus.

  • Experience and knowledge in the technology and/or operation of systems used in the manufacture, purification, filling and storage of Electronics speciality materials is preferred.

  • Formal training and experience with six sigma processes and continuous improvement tools a plus

  • A Demonstrated Commitment to Safety and Quality.

  • Minitab/Lean 6 Sigma techniques

  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies
