Deputy Director of the Center for Access to Justice and Director of Law Public Interest Programs

The Center for Access to Justice at Georgia State University (the “Center”), housed in the College of Law, is hiring for a Deputy Director of the Center for Access to Justice and Director of Law Public Interest Programs (“Director”). The Center studies how lower-income individuals interact with the civil and criminal justice systems, with a regional focus on the South. The Center’s mission has three main components: collaboration (across disciplines and between academics, practitioners, and policymakers), research and advocacy, and education.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Faculty Director of the Center. This position requires experience in program management along with skill in coordinating and evaluating Center activities and special projects. The Director is responsible for overseeing day-to-day Center operations and for managing resources to fulfill the Center’s mission in accordance with priorities, time and budget requirements. The position is also responsible for promoting the profile of the Center to the broader community.
The Director will oversee communication and marketing for the Center, including development and distribution of marketing materials. The Director will manage content for Center website and blog; email and social media communications. The individual will coordinate Center-related events, including conferences and workshops.
The Director is a liaison to the College of Law’s Center for Professional Development and Career Strategies and has a role in advising students regarding careers in the public interest. The individual will provide counseling to students and alumni on interviewing techniques, mock and informational interviews, networking, and job search strategies particular to the public sector.
The position will assist with Center-related courses and curriculum and aid in supervising/facilitating the work of Center fellows, research assistants, and interns. The position will also assist with writing grant proposals and managing a number of areas related to daily Center administration budget management/financial reporting, and human resources.
As time and interest allow, the Director may also be involved in substantive writing and/or editing projects, including Center-related reports and policy papers, or serve as reporter for Center-related meetings.
The Director is responsible for the administration of public interest programs for the College of Law, including mandatory service requirements, alternative spring break, the Pro Bono Honors Program, Law Summer Fellowships, and other pro bono programming. The individual will oversee the College of Law’s Pro Bono Program, which offers volunteer opportunities for students to assist organizations in meeting the needs of those who cannot afford legal counsel. The Director serves the Public Interest Law Society and assists students with endeavors to raise money for summer fellowships. The Director manages all aspects of the College of Law’s Public Interest Law and Policy Certificate program.
Applicants will have a J.D. or foreign equivalent and a strong academic record. In addition, applicants should demonstrate a track record or promise in teaching, service, and research. Organization and communication skills are critical, as is attention to detail.
