Job Description

Ensure the professional development of plant quality personnel by planning, establishing, and directing plant quality systems. Make certain that the plant quality is maintained at acceptable levels, appropriate training opportunities are offered and continuous improvement efforts are effective.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage plant quality, champion plant quality initiatives, and represent the Quality Department on the Material Review Board

  • Involve plant and corporate management to develop practices and procedures that promote product, manufacturing process, and business system process quality

  • Track, report key plant quality metrics and establish plans to consistently improve key plant quality metrics.

  • Monitor trends in product and process quality

  • Manage the Quality Engineering, Plant Training, Quality Auditing and Quality Technician functions at the plant level

  • Liaison with Corporate Quality, Research and Development, Purchasing, Operations, and Process Development to resolve corporate-level quality issues

  • Establish a continuous improvement process within the Quality Department at the plant level

  • Apply analytical and statistical techniques to problem-solving and continuous improvement opportunities

  • Organize and schedule laboratory testing

  • Manage department expense, capital and personnel budgets and reduce cost of Quality at the plant

  • Communicate supplier-related issues to the Corporate Supplier Quality Engineer

Qualifications and Experience

  • Educational attainment equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Quality, Engineering, Management, or a related technical or scientific field

  • Thorough quality management experience

  • Certified Quality Manager and/or Certified Quality Engineer ASQ certification is desirable

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of qc standards, practices and testing techniques

  • Thorough knowledge of statistical and analytical problem solving capabilities

  • Considerable knowledge of supervisory principles and leadership techniques

  • Ability to manage departmental functions and programs

  • Ability to communicate effectively, establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, staff, customers, contractors and other departmental representatives

  • Ability to select, train, supervise, and evaluate the work of staff

  • Ability to control and monitor budgetary expenditures

  • Ability to institute continuous improvement activities

  • Ability to operate a computer and use mainframe software or packaged word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs Ability to exercise judgment, communicate departmental standards, and ensure compliance with industry requirements
