Preferred Qualifications
Given the high-profile and sensitive species our research involves, in addition to the focus on education and outreach, demonstrated communication skills will be weighed heavily, in addition to professional references and other field experiences. This position will involve significant travel. Thus, the employee must have a valid license in their possession while operating any vehicle on University business and be able to pass a Motor Vehicle Records Check performed by UGA Police. You are disqualified from driving for the University of Georgia in the following circumstances, and thus ineligible for this position: A Driver who has had one of the following occurrences during the 24-month period preceding their use or request for use of a State of Georgia Vehicle, or a vehicle used for University business will be considered a "Disqualified Driver": 1. Accumulating 10 or more points on his or her driving record, 2. Having an "at fault" motor vehicle accident within the six (6) months preceding an assignment to drive on University business, or 3. Having been convicted of one of the following offenses preceding an assignment to drive on University business: * Driving Under the Influence (DUI) * Driving Under the Influence Less Safe * Leaving the scene of an accident * Acquired at minimum a bachelor's degree in wildlife or a related field * Previous training/experience in wildlife camera trapping is required. * Previous training/experience in wildlife handling including anesthesia is required. * Previous training/experience in database management and ArcGIS is preferred.

Position Summary
This is a 6-month position, with potential for extension depending on successful funding acquisition.

The Urban Wildlife Extension Assistant Work will support outreach and research efforts ongoing within the Kohl Wildlife Lab with an emphasis on our Wildlife Atlanta project. Currently, this includes data collection related urban wildlife conflict and management, with a specific focus on urban coyotes, however other efforts may require assistance as new priorities are identified. Because of variable nature of work in urban settings, work will vary seasonally, and potentially daily. As such, daily/weekly schedules will be assigned by the supervisor. Across these projects, common duties will include direct supervision of field technicians, providing assistance to graduate students in support of their fieldwork including coyote capture and handling, data entry, outreach activities (e.g., public speaking, workshop logistics support), and other duties as they arise.

* Be flexible (long days should be expected and weekend work will be needed).
* Be able to maintain a positive attitude in challenging field conditions that may include inclement weather, heat, mosquitos, poisonous plants.
* Ability to safely operate a 4WD vehicle.
* Ability to run a chainsaw.
* Ability to drive with, hook up, and back a trailer.
Physical Demands
The position will often involve lifting over 50 lbs., travel significant distances on foot in difficult environments, and occasionally work 12+ hour days in challenging conditions. Driving to perform job related duties.
