Students should be able to commit to, at a minimum, the following 2024 work schedule:
Spring 2024 Semester: 10-15 hours per week

Survivor Intake:

Under the supervision of CEASE Clinic staff, interns will travel to state prisons and survivor service provider agencies to complete intakes under staff supervision, and work with various public, private, local, and statewide agencies to connect survivors to pro bono attorneys, advocates, and other survivor resources and services.

Social Work Case Management:

Under the supervision the CEASE Clinic's Social Work Advocate, maintain a caseload supporting clinic legal clients; conduct client visits and meetings; case assessment, strategy, and management; identify and interview collateral sources of information (e.g. family members, friends, teachers, social workers, community members, child welfare agency workers, prison staff, service providers, probation officers, and others connected to the client); request, review, and analyze client records (school, medical, psychiatric, criminal, juvenile court, etc.); support clients in identifying their needs, setting goals, and developing a structured plan for achieving those goals through appropriate evidence-based clinical practices and in consultation with legal interns and attorneys; assess a client's needs and readiness for services; provide non-legal advocacy and support for clients in court hearings, mediation, out-of-court meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and other settings within the scope of clinic representation; connect clients with appropriate services to address safety, health, housing, transportation, employment, food, education, substance use needs, family care needs, and mental health needs; explore options to meet needs when necessary services do not exist in a community; participate in general office and case management upkeep duties, including computer data entry of intake information, filing, copying, drafting and filing court documents, and serving notice.

Project Development:

Under the supervision of CEASE Clinic staff, conduct research on trauma-responsive legal intake, pro bono attorney training curriculum, and community outreach and education on legal resources and remedies. Assist in developing trauma-responsive intake policies and protocols, reaching out to prison social workers, mental health professionals, and survivor service providers to build partnerships and plan intake clinics. Assist in building a network of pro bono attorneys and lay advocates, and assist in providing training and technical assistance to ensure quality and trauma-responsive representation for survivors.
