Grounds Operations
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Superintendent of Landscape Operations, the Grounds Supervisor manages a team of Grounds Foremen and Grounds Keepers. Oversees campus grounds and all operations associated with the maintenance and upkeep of landscaping (i.e. tree and shrub pruning, seasonal flower installation, overseeding, fertilizer and weed control, mowing, edging, weed eating, blowing, recycling and waste disposal), athletic fields, student housing complex and irrigation systems. This position ensures that the grounds are safe, clean, and attractive; the department runs smoothly, meets scheduled deadlines, and fulfills work orders.
Responsibilities
Oversee campus grounds and all operations associated with the maintenance and upkeep of landscaping (i.e. tree and shrub pruning, seasonal flower installation, overseeding, fertilizer and weed control, mowing, edging, weed eating, blowing, recycling and waste disposal), athletic fields, student housing complex, and irrigation systems; and ensure grounds are safe, clean and attractive
Train and supervise a staff of Grounds Foreman and Grounds Keepers
Schedule and assign work
Set work priorities and make adjustments
Inspect work orders for quality of workmanship and accuracy, and ensure established standards are achieved
Assist work crews in litter removal, cutting grass, weed eating, edging, trimming, pruning, and spraying of flowerbeds, shrubs, and trees
Assess the performance of personnel, conduct written and/or verbal reviews, counseling, discipline, and other personnel actions
Maintain and prepare reports
Maintain and order materials, supplies, and equipment
Oversee special projects and contracts
Work as part of a team with fellow colleagues, and attend meetings, workshops, and training; serve on committees and interview panels
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Associate's Degree or five (5) years of supervisory work experience managing a professional landscaping crew
Two (2) or more years of work experience with a landscaping crew
Required Experience
Five (5) years of supervisory work experience managing a professional landscaping crew
Work experience in grounds maintenance
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Pesticide License or the ability to obtain within 90 days from hire
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Experience
Experience methods, materials, and equipment used in planting, cultivating, and trimming a variety of tree types, plants, shrubs, ground cover, and grasses
Proposed Salary
$19.33 - $24.18 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
