JOB DESCRIPTION

Human Resources Intern

Summary
The HR Intern's position responsibility falls into support of several categories including staffing/recruitment, employee on-boarding and off-boarding, benefits and salary administration, Human Resource Information System (HRIS) maintenance and data integrity, manager and employee relations, and HR process implementation and support, with a strong focus on the Operations Group. Must have strong communication and organizational skills, be customer service driven, and have a passion for supporting the Human Resources department to deliver results that align with the vision of the company. The HR Intern establishes a customer service-oriented philosophy. The position reports to HR Business Partner.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports colleagues, managers and benefit providers to provide information, assistance and resolution regarding employment, payroll, Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA), short-term disability (STD), workers' compensation, benefits, employee relations and terminations, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws
  • Supports benefit administration including enrollment, change reporting, and claims; communicates information to colleagues
  • Coordinates staffing and recruiting support including job posting, resume reviews, candidate communication, scheduling and interviewing, background screening, pre-employment drug screening, and offer letter generation
  • Coordinates activities for new employee on-boarding including first day orientation, employee payroll and benefit portal training, as well as job specific on-boarding training and activities
  • Completes compensation and market surveys and ad-hoc reporting as required
  • Supports the Human Resources team with reporting, employee records and data administration including EEO reporting, AAP, general HR metrics and other ad-hoc data collection
  • Audits employment eligibility (I-9) process; completes verifications of employment; maintains updated forms, records and personnel files; acquires background reports; may process new hires and terminations under supervision of HR Manager; manages provider reports
  • Maintains appropriate recordkeeping to support Affirmative Action and EEO requirements
  • Assists in the research and implementation of a variety of HR initiatives and solutions to achieve company goals
  • Assists in coordinating company-sponsored functions, including employee appreciation events, luncheons, wellness activities, etc.
  • Coordinates employee off-boarding including exit interviews and exit process
  • Acts as support and liaison between the company and its providers - fostering effective relationships with client representatives
  • Acts as payroll back-up
  • Participates actively in safety program, leading a committee, investigating incidents, filing claims and assisting employees
  • Scheduling and support for training and development initiatives and in certain instances, facilitating training (i.e. New Hire Orientation)
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • In process of pursuing Bachelor's Degree in HR Management, Business Administration or equivalent preferred
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Minimum of 1 years' experience providing Human Resource support
  • Excellent computer skills including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Prior experience with HRIS and report writing preferred
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Must be able to work in the US

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power Point and Word software
  • Experience with an HRIS database preferred
  • Maintain affiliation with human resources programs and HR organizations
