Department: Human Resources

Ballard Spahr, a national law firm with 15 offices across the Country has an opportunity available in our Human Resources Department for an experienced Leave & Disability Administrator.Our Administrator will be responsible for managing HR functions including, but not limited to the Firm's leave of absence (LOA), disability and workers' compensation programs; employment verifications and Human Capital Management (HCM) data.

Responsibilities include managing leaves of absence for lawyers and business professionals, in compliance with the federal FMLA and state and local leave related laws; short and long term disability claims; workers' compensation program, including claims management, liaison with insurance carrier and compliance with state and local reporting and notice requirements.This position reports to the Director of HR Operations and offers a remote arrangement.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provides guidance to employees and managers in interpreting leave and disability policies. Assists employees with filing claims internally as well as through state and local programs, as applicable. Serves as the point of contact for all employees and managers for leave related inquiries.

  • Completes annual state compliance reporting for Workers Compensation.

  • Administers PTO/Sick Time audits, donations, and sick time sell back programs.

Other Human Resources support includes, employment verifications, ad hoc report requests, managing local office compliance with federal and state labor law posters, weekly firm newsletter, and status change form transactions.

The selected individual will have a high degree of proficiency with Microsoft applications including Word and Excel.HRIS experience, preferably with Workday a plus.Strong verbal and written communication skills along with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.Must be able to prioritize, handle multiple demands and meet deadlines. Attention to detail, time management skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members is required. A demonstrated ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information is essential.

Five years of related experience in Human Resources administering leaves of absence and disability programs, preferably in a legal or professional service environment; Bachelor's degree preferred.Knowledge of federal, state and local leave and disability and workers' compensation programs and applicable laws. Working knowledge of general HR processes. Ability to work beyond the standard scheduled hours, as needed.
