Minimum Qualifications

Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree. Active Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credentials and be eligible for dietitian licensure in Georgia. Sports-specific nutrition knowledge and have experience working with high-level athletes in a collegiate setting. At least one to two years of related experience in a sports nutrition program.
Position Summary
The Performance Nutritionist will provide comprehensive nutritional services to the University of Georgia Athletic Association (UGAAA) men's and women's basketball programs. This employee will be responsible for performance nutrition education and counseling for individual basketball student-athletes. The employee is expected to collaborate with a range of UGAAA staff members (including but not limited to physicians, athletic training, athletic coaching, strength and conditioning, mental health, operations, academics, and administration) and a variety of outside foodservice vendors.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Knowledge of nutrition principles as they relate to health and human performance and have experience working with high level athletes, preferably in a collegiate setting. Experience with body composition analysis and medical nutrition therapy case management.
Physical Demands
Bending, stooping, seeing, lifting a minimum of 25 lbs. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but escalates to high during practice and athletic competitions.

Meals, Snacks, Permissible Food and Nutrition Supplement Support
1. Organize meals, snacks, and permissible foods for student-athletes in collaboration with the Director of Operations for each basketball program.

Education and Counseling
1. Serve as a performance dietitian
  • Education - team talks, plate coaching, supplement safety
  • Counseling - eating behaviors, illnesses, injuries, special dietary needs
  • Performance - fueling and hydration plans, recovery nutrition, application of performance data
2. Manage and implement the UGA Performance Nutrition supplement policy
3. Interdisciplinary work
  • Collaborate and communicate with Sports Medicine, Sports Performance, Mental Health and Performance, and other departments within the UGAAA

1. Organize and coordinate performance testing schedules
2. Operate the performance testing equipment

3. Analyze and interpret the body composition, hydration, and laboratory blood draw data

1. Oversee the Performance Nutrition volunteers and student workers
2. Document performance testing data and individualized counseling sessions
3. Collect pertinent medical documents (e.g., lab reports, DXA scans)
4. Develop student-athlete nutrition education materials
5. Attend and participate in professional development opportunities

Duties as Assigned by the Director of Performance Nutrition
1. Coordinate performance nutrition services for student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletic programs for the UGAAA, under the direction of the Director of Performance Nutrition
2. Special projects related to performance nutrition as directed by the Director of Performance Nutrition
