What you'll do

The Field Service & Integration Engineer (FSE) is a key member of Viasat's Commercial Airline Support team, which helps deliver and maintain best-in-class In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) services to our Commercial Airline customers.


The day-to-day

As a Field Service & Integration Engineer, you will play a critical part in supporting existing customer aircraft and in the service launch of new customers, supporting system activations and over-the-air system checks for new installations of Viasat's onboard IFC solution. You will ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with Viasat procedures and airline manuals, following regulatory body requirements (FAA/EASA etc). Additionally you will collaborates with internal and external partners and be able to communicate optimally with diverse audiences including engineering teams, program management, customers, and third party partners & suppliers.

The ideal candidate will have a proven background in commercial aircraft systems, specifically electrical and avionics equipment problem solving and testing and technical expertise to understand issues and develop solutions. As you will be part of a globally distributed team, previous experience working in a remotely connected team is a plus.

In this role you will:

  • Assist ViaSat's customers with the planning and execution of maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair efforts and ensure accurate and complete documentation of all maintenance work performed on customer aircraft (if required by the airline)
  • Travel to customer maintenance locations on short notice.
  • Provide training to maintenance vendors and airline personnel on installation and maintenance of the Viasat IFC solution and ensure all required and preventative maintenance is performed in accordance with company, airline and regulatory body requirements
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with OEM's, airline partners, and third-party maintenance personnel.
  • Provide remote assistance to support diagnostic checks on Viasat IFC equipment installed on customer aircraft as well as provide a timely reremote response and resolution to any service inquiry related to installation and maintenance.
  • Ensure all install aids and equipment required to maintain the Viasat IFC service is available and up to date.
  • Assist Field Support Manager in the development of improved maintenance and preventative maintenance of the ViaSat IFC solution. This includes the ability to translate real world processes into rack testing new software releases.

What you'll need

  • 3+ years' experience interpreting technical manuals and schematics including engineering items supporting the installation and repair of the ViaSat IFC system
  • Proven experience working in a field support capacity supporting high profile customers
  • Proven experience with IP/Networking, Linux and/or Unix
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule in a 24x7 environment as needed to support round-the-clock operations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the need to present complex technical material to a variety of audience
  • Associate Degree in Technical Subject Area or equivalent experience
  • Ability to travel up to 75%, including internationally
  • Ability to obtain a SIDA Airside Access Badge
  • This role will be located in Atlanta, GA

What will help you on the job

  • Aircraft and Powerplant (A&P) Certification
  • Proven experience in Avionics and Aircraft maintenance
  • Demonstrated experience in a Technical Support or NOC role preferred
  • Prior experience with RF Satellite or Wireless Communication systems
  • Experience working as part of a geographically distributed team with remote supervision

FAA safety sensitive

This is an FAA safety sensitive position, which requires participation in our Drug-Alcohol program, including pre-employment testing and random testing. It is an essential function of the position that the employee meets the safety requirements of the FAA.
Salary range

$93,000.00 - $161,800.00 / annually
