The Maintenance Manager reports to the Facility Engineer and has shared responsibility for performing master mechanic duties; sole responsibility for managing and directing work of the maintenance team using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) as the tool to prioritize and assign; and responsibility for scheduling PTO for the maintenance team, ensuring adequate coverage for the facility.

Primary Responsibilities

This individual will be involved in a variety of maintenance activities including:

  • Prioritizes work based on risk to safety, regulatory compliance, and production.

  • Performs most general, mechanical, or electrical repairs, as required, and understands PLCs, and variable speed drives.

  • Examines plant systems to diagnose problems and prevent failures.

  • Provides maintenance on plant electrical, mechanical, HV/AC, plumbing, and other systems, plus general maintenance, with limited supervision.

  • Researches, and orders improved and compatible equipment that will standardize equipment types which eliminates the need for a wide variety of spare parts and vendors.

  • Troubleshoots problems to determine the most cost effective solution. Consults with Facility Engineer, and presents results and alternatives.

  • Assists other mechanics in projects outside of their area of specific expertise.

  • Trains other maintenance mechanics, and maintenance helpers.

  • Shares findings, lessons learned, and repair techniques with maintenance team.

  • Evaluates maintenance team members' technical strengths and weaknesses, to facilitates and advocate for additional knowledge and resources, as needed.

  • Enables cross training within the maintenance team.

  • Optimizes Preventive Maintenance frequency and scope, based on risk, history, failure effects, resources, and competing priorities.

  • Coordinates reactive and preventive maintenance and contractor activities with the Production team to minimize disruptions.

  • Completes, maintains, and processes all necessary documents pertaining to repairs, purchases and other appropriate activities.

  • Displays strong problem-solving skills.

  • Displays strong knowledge of OSHA requirements as they pertain to daily activities.

  • Specific safety knowledge with respect to the plant and equipment.

  • Cleans, lubricates, and adjusts mechanical parts as necessary.

  • Displays team player characteristics.

  • Hires contractors to troubleshoot and repair, when third-party time and expertise is required.

  • Recognizes the" customer," and is flexible in changing priorities as required by the customer

  • Works, generally, without continuous supervision, essentially, independently.

  • Displays strong oral and written communication skills. Uses plant radio in an appropriate manner.

  • Contributes to the general housekeeping of the entire plant area, and the assigned area in the maintenance "shop."

  • Follows, without exception, all work instructions and safety rules, including the use of all PPE and safety gear. Reinforces the instructions and rules with peers.

  • Practices safety in all actions, including start up-shut down & lockout / tag out procedures for all responsibilities.

  • Displays extensive knowledge of, and manages the labeling, disposal, and documentation for hazardous waste, per appropriate work instructions.

  • Scheduling of PTO and CMMS tasks

  • Schedules daily work assignments for maintenance team, as determined by plant needs and CMMS

  • Maintains facility CMMS (computerized maintenance management system)

  • Keeps management team informed of project status

  • Exhibits excellent forklift / highboy skills. Must be trained on all lifts used in the plant.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency

  • Good math, reading, communication, and organizational skills

  • A combination of 10+ years of technical training and experience

  • Solid working knowledge of computer applications (MS Office suite, internet accessibility).

  • Associates degree preferred.

  • Special Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of various trade fundamentals sufficient to deal with general repairs.

  • Must possess skills in mechanics (pumps, mixers, machinery repair), and electrical, including basic PLC troubleshooting.

  • Requires demonstrated ability to perform all job duties.

  • Displays solid leadership skills.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand.

  • The employee is frequently required to walk, climb stairs

  • The employee will use hands to move boxes and insert bags therein;

  • The employee will reach with the hands and arms, and stoop and bend from the waist.

  • The employee must, regularly, lift and / or move containers weighing up to 50 lbs. And, occasionally, move and / or lift containers weighing up to 100 lbs., with assistance.

  • Often exposed to high temperature, tight working environments

  • Must be able to work quickly and effectively, under pressure, when the plant is "down."

  • Must also be able work in positions high off the main floor of the plant.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $85,000 - $110,000/yr.
