JOB DIMENSIONS
- General purpose: Work closely with the infrastructure asphalt mixture team, primarily supporting product development, raw material characterization, and specification development for asphalt pavement additives, with a focus on practical applications in the lab and hands-on experience in asphalt mixture testing and research.
- You will be responsible for conducting and testing of methodologies, equipment, materials and processes which assist in the development of new technical capabilities and fulfill R&D competitiveness strategies.
- Advises, consults, and coordinates with Innovation group, Operations/Manufacturing/Quality/Assurance, Commercial Team, Marketing and Communications Team.
ACTIVITIES
- Utilize your technical and civil engineering expertise to propose innovative solutions to address gaps in product and/or market segments, emphasizing asphalt pavement materials and structures.
- Develop comprehensive test programs for asphalt pavement additives and materials to achieve product performance targets.
- Evaluate raw materials and manufacturing options for asphalt pavement formulations, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Develop manufacturing and quality control protocols for asphalt pavement additives, ensuring adherence to industry standards and specifications.
- Collaborate closely with the Arkema - Infrastructure Commercial team and Arkema peers to understand product performance requirements and needs.
- Create and maintain standard laboratory operating procedures to ensure consistent product quality, execution of operational procedures, and data management.
- Operate a safe laboratory working environment, maintaining necessary training, organization, inventory, and cleanliness.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Provide clear and concise communication, both in written and verbal form, to internal and external customers.
- Support and participate in downstream laboratory testing programs to properly support Product Development.
- Ensure all data and records are properly maintained.
- Foster a collaborative product development environment and ensure compliance with industry specifications (AASHTO, ASTM, State DOTs).
- Stay updated on evolving technologies and trends in asphalt pavement engineering and materials.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Thorough knowledge of laboratory safety policies and procedures, chemical and physical hazards, and other precautions to maintain an effective and safe workplace.
- Familiarity with testing equipment, maintenance, calibration, and material science applicable to asphalt pavement.
- Strong project management skills.
- The ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously; and the ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision, must be a self-starter.
- Ability to deliver technical presentations with elocution and public speaking skills.
- Solid understanding of current research methods, technology, and trends in asphalt pavement engineering.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite (intermediate to advanced).
- The ability to build and maintain effective relationships with all levels of clients, industry associations, internal teams, partner suppliers, and vendor organizations.
- Position may require limited travel within North America.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Minimum Master's in Civil Engineering (Preferably with a focus on asphalt pavement materials), Materials Science, or related scientific discipline.
- 3+ years of technical experience preferably in asphalt mixture industry.
- Experience in laboratory and plant operational support is a plus.
- Experience working organic synthesis testing or related surfactant formulations is a plus.
